Sunnah Marriage Standards (SMS) aligning marriage practices with the Prophetic Sunnah in a structured and standardized format. This will not only serve as a guideline for conducting marriages but also set the foundation for the ‘Break the Chains — Revive the Sunnah’ movement. It is designed to restore the sanctity of marriage by aligning every stage of the marital journey with the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad (SAW).
In an era where extravagant weddings and cultural practices have overshadowed the beauty of simplicity, SMS serves as a revolutionary model to Break the Chains of materialism and revive the essence of Nikah as a sacred covenant.

The Sunnah Marriage Standards (SMS) is designed to guide individuals, families, and communities in conducting marriages in accordance with the Sunnah of the Prophet (SAW). It serves as a step-by-step operational manual to simplify the marriage process, eliminate harmful cultural practices, and promote responsible spending ultimately restoring the sanctity of marriage.
Phase-1: Pre-Marital Planning (Intention Compatibility)
- Istikhara & Sincerity of Intention (Ikhlas)
- Family Background Check (Character > Wealth > Beauty > Lineage)
- Pre-Marital Counselling (Marriage Detox Workshops)
- Pre-Marital Medical Check-up
- Agreeing on a Reasonable Mahar (Minimum Shariah Standard)
- Drafting the Pre-Marital Agreement
- Signing the Marriage Detox Pledge
Step 1: Sincere Intention (Niyyah)
Set the intention that marriage is for the sake of Allah, seeking His pleasure and fulfilling half of one’s Deen. Prophetic Quote: “Actions are judged by intentions.” — Bukhari & Muslim
Step 2: Istikhara & Parental Consultation
Perform Salatul Istikhara before proceeding with any proposal.
Prophetic Quote: “If anyone of you is concerned about a decision, let him pray two units of voluntary prayer and then say… (Dua of Istikhara)” — Bukhari
Step 3: Prioritizing Character over Wealth
Seek compatibility based on Deen&Akhlaaq (Faith & Character), not wealth or status.
Prophetic Quote:
“A woman is married for four reasons: her wealth, her lineage, her beauty, and her religion. Marry the one who is religious, may your hands be rubbed with dust.” — Bukhari.
Step 4: Reasonable Mahar Agreement
Both families agree on a Mahar that reflects the Sunnah — simple, modest, and free from greed.
Recommended Mahar: Equivalent to the minimum Sunnah Mahar.
