Dear Parents,
As Salaamualaykum wrwb,
Why Islamic Education Matters More Than Ever:
In today’s world, Muslim families spend lakhs of rupees on academic education from kindergarten to Class 12, often investing close to₹30 lakhs per child (12 years in Convent Schools) and ₹60 lakhs per child in international schools. Yet, when it comes to Islamic education, most children receive just one or two years of Maktab lessons, costing barely a few thousand rupees.
This imbalance raises a crucial question:
How can the Muslim community expect to live Islam, follow Islam, and transmit Islam across generations when Islamic learning is so neglected?
Islam is not a culture we inherit passively. It is a complete way of life (Deen) that must be learned, understood, and practiced. Without education, faith becomes ritualistic and shallow leaving us vulnerable to adopting foreign values that conflict with Islam.
The Current Reality
- Academic education: Parents sacrifice wealth, time, and effort to ensure children excel in academics, believing it secures their future.
- Islamic education: Usually limited to learning the Qur’an’s recitation, basic Duas, and a few fiqh rules. Rarely does it continue beyond childhood.
The result? A generation of Muslims who can become doctors, engineers, and business leaders, but:
- Struggle to pray properly,
- Don’t know marriage rights,
- Are unaware of halal/haram in finance,
- Neglect Islamic parenting,
- And fail to connect with the Qur’an beyond recitation.
This is not sustainable. A house without foundations collapses. Similarly, a community that ignores its Deen risks losing its identity.
Why Islamic Education is Essential
Guidance in Worship (Ibadah): Without knowledge, Salah becomes mechanical, fasting becomes cultural, and zakat is either missed or miscalculated.
- Protection of Faith (Aqeedah): Without strong Islamic knowledge, children fall prey to atheism, materialism, or distorted ideologies.
- Preservation of Identity: Islamic education keeps our next generation rooted in values despite the pressures of modern society.
- Balanced Living: Islam teaches moderation — excelling in dunya while safeguarding Akhirah.
- Accountability to Allah: Unlike academic certificates, Islamic knowledge is an obligation that defines eternal success.
